Lego 10195 Review
Lego 10195 Republic Dropship w/AT-OT is a truly epic set! 10195 combines three things that I love: walkers, ships, and grand scale! The combined model measures 13″ high, 22″ wide, and 24″ long. You need a lot of display space for this set. It is truly as impressive as it gets!
I do have a couple of gripes, however. I wish that Lego had used printed pieces on the cockpit of the AT-OT. The cockpit mechanism points skyward when the walker is in pick-up mode (see video) and because of how the dropship sits on top of the walker’s cockpit, the stickers on the windshield are constantly peeled back by the underside of the dropship.
Another issue I have is with the position of the seats in the AT-OT. There are six guns mounted on the walls of the walker, but unfortunately there is no good way to position the clone troopers so that they are directly behind the blasters. It’s a minor quibble, but from an attention to detail perspective, It does bug me a bit.
The build is great fun. The walker is pretty standard Clone Wars-era fare, but the dropship holds your attention, due to its sheer size and unique shape. There is a lot of technic building on the dropship, which I enjoy very much. The coupling mechanism is fascinating to build and quite clever. However, in practice, I have found that I only have about a 25% success rate in getting the ship to couple with the walker. Perhaps I just need more practice!
Overall, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a bigger, cooler set! 10195 has been retired for about five years, so this set is pricey. I found mine used, thankfully, but it was still a significant investment.
